The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abderrafie Hamouchi, chaired a strategic working meeting on Friday at the National Security Directorate in Rabat. The session focused on updating and enhancing the nation’s sports security system in anticipation of upcoming major sporting events.
Reinforcing Security Measures
This meeting, the second in a single week, served as a platform to evaluate the current security measures applied at sports events and facilities. Attendees discussed ways to strengthen these measures by integrating modern technologies and more effective strategies to combat violence and disorder associated with sporting competitions.
National Coordination Among Security Forces
Security officials from various regions, including Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Kenitra, Tetouan, Fes, and Marrakech, participated in the discussions, facilitating coordination of national security approaches and their integration with local plans for sporting event safety.
Modern Technology in Sporting Safety
Presentations highlighted the latest technical tools in sports security, including surveillance systems, drones, and field command centers, aimed at monitoring crowd movements, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring swift intervention when necessary.
Proactive Measures and Legal Enforcement
During the meeting, Hamouchi emphasized the importance of proactive measures through the use of intelligence channels to monitor high-risk matches. He called for the mobilization of various security units and intervention forces to secure stadiums and surrounding areas, safeguarding public safety and preventing property damage.
Participants also explored ways to enhance coordination among security services during crowd movements, as well as increasing reliance on visual documentation to identify individuals involved in violent incidents. The meeting reiterated the need for strict legal enforcement against all forms of sports-related violence and ensuring that perpetrators face justice, thereby protecting public safety and upholding Morocco’s reputation as a capable host for continental and international sporting events.
The meeting concluded with a vision for a new security approach characterized by effective field deployment of public forces, proactive threat management, and a balanced focus on security needs while maintaining an enjoyable sporting atmosphere within national stadiums.
