This week, the Hassan II Park in Rabat was the backdrop for a significant march dubbed “The Unified Walk for Inclusive Health,” organized by the Moroccan Special Olympics. This initiative, part of the Rosemary Collaboratory project, aimed to advocate for enhanced health rights for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Gathering for Change

The event saw the participation of 209 attendees, including athletes from Special Olympics Morocco, their families, health professionals, students, representatives from NGOs, institutional partners, and volunteers. The collective effort was aimed at shedding light on the barriers faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities in accessing healthcare services.

A Call for Action

The march emphasized the urgent need for more equitable and inclusive health services tailored to the needs of this marginalized group. Banners were raised advocating for the integration of individuals with intellectual disabilities into health policies and programs, underscoring that their presence is crucial for developing inclusive health systems that ensure equal access to services.

Engagement and Awareness

The program included interactive activities and awareness initiatives aimed at both participants and the wider community. Health ambassadors shared personal testimonies, highlighting the importance of fair access to healthcare and the dignity of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Organizers stressed that this initiative is part of a broader movement to raise awareness and advocate for the right to health, further engaging civil society actors, institutions, and professionals in the pursuit of inclusion and equality.

This march not only showcased a commitment to social justice but also marked a pivotal step towards dismantling the barriers that hinder access to necessary health services for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Through collaborative efforts and shared advocacy, the goal of achieving a more inclusive society for all remains ever within reach.
