On Monday, Rabat hosted an event celebrating Africa Day, spotlighting King Mohammed VI’s visionary commitment to a sovereign, united, and sustainable African continent. The gathering, organized by the African Centre for Training and Research in Administration for Development (CIFRAD), underscored the urgency for enhanced South-South cooperation and innovative governance to drive Africa’s development.

Pioneering a Sustainable Africa

The event drew a diverse assembly of diplomats, officials, experts, and business leaders who addressed the myriad challenges and opportunities facing African development. Discussions emphasized the necessity of forging strong ties among African nations and cultivating robust governance frameworks, viewing these as vital catalysts for advancement.

The director general of CIFRAD, Kofi Diodone Asufi, asserted that the choice of theme reflects Morocco’s central role in fostering African cooperation. He highlighted that the Royal vision has established a strategic commitment to partnerships with African nations. Asufi also shared several initiatives led by CIFRAD aimed at steering Africa towards greater prosperity and resilience against future challenges.

Strengthening African Unity

Gabon’s ambassador to Morocco, Branly Martial Obolo, stressed the importance of uniting African efforts to tackle the increasing global competition across various sectors. Echoing this sentiment, Yahiya Mohamed Elias, the Comorian ambassador, called for a collective engagement among African countries to realize the Royal vision for the continent’s development. He commended Morocco’s role in strengthening solidarity and cooperation among African nations.

Mustapha Shaoun, president of the African Union of Transport and Logistics Organizations, noted that African development necessitates modern infrastructure improvements and enhanced transport and logistics networks. Investment in human capital through training and knowledge exchange was identified as crucial for sustainable growth.

A Strategic Partnership Model

Khalid Boudali, strategic advisor to the African Union, remarked that Morocco has positioned African partnerships as a strategic choice rooted in mutual respect and trust. Over the past two decades, the Kingdom has been committed to establishing an effective South-South cooperation model, embodying the principles of shared experience and collaborative growth.

In his address, Hassan Sakhi, president of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services for Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, reinforced the belief that African development must be locally driven by Africans. He advocated for partnerships built on effective solidarity and shared interests, emphasizing the private sector’s role as a crucial engine for growth and job creation.

Promoting Sustainable Development

The event also saw the introduction of the African Committee for Sustainable and Integrated Development (CADDI). This committee aims to devise African sustainability standards and strengthen governance linked to the continent’s developmental agendas, notably Agenda 2063.

A memorandum of understanding was signed among key founding partners of the committee, including CIFRAD and the African Union of Transport and Logistics Organizations. This agreement aims to develop a framework for collaboration in training, smart governance, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

Mohamed Al-Kihal, the committee’s founder and general coordinator, expressed that the protocol draws inspiration from the Royal initiatives geared towards achieving sustainable and integrated development across Africa, focusing on institutional capacity building and joint projects benefiting the continent’s future.

Recognition of Contributions

As the event concluded, several African personalities were honored for their significant contributions to promoting African development. Among them were Amal Falah Al-Sagroushni, Najib Al-Kitani, Nouzha Wafi, Mohamed Al-Kihal, and Khalid Boudali.

This celebration reaffirms Morocco’s status as a strategic partner for Africa, highlighting its leadership role in advancing sustainable development and enhancing cooperation among southern nations, aligned with the Royal vision of fostering solidarity and shared prosperity across the continent.
