Youth Data Enhances Effectiveness of Family Support Programs in Morocco

Youth Data Enhances Effectiveness of Family Support Programs in Morocco

Morocco’s Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Naima Ibn Yaïhya, has announced that the national survey on family dynamics will play a crucial role in enhancing government programs aimed at supporting vulnerable groups. This initiative seeks to deepen understanding of social realities as the nation grapples with shifting familial structures and growing economic pressures.

Enhancing Family Support through Data

Ibn Yaïhya highlighted in a written response to parliamentarian Latifa Abath that the findings from the national family survey would provide essential insights into the evolving role of the Moroccan family. By gathering accurate data, the government aims to devise more effective public policies tailored to current societal challenges.

The initial findings of the survey indicate concerning trends, including heightened economic and social pressures on families, a shift in familial roles—particularly with more women participating in the workforce—and an increasing need for balancing professional and family life. This data underscores an urgent demand for accessible social support services for children and the elderly.

A Comprehensive Approach to Family Welfare

In light of these findings, Ibn Yaïhya reiterated the necessity of a holistic approach to family support. The ministry is committed to enhancing resilience and cohesion in families through social care services, preventive interventions, and equitable access to resources. These initiatives aim to mitigate vulnerabilities before they escalate, ensuring that support systems align with the actual needs of families.

Looking ahead, the ministry is actively preparing to implement a suite of current and future programs, including a national public policy for family welfare by 2035. This policy aims to establish an integrated framework for empowering families, reinforcing their educational and preventive roles, and decreasing the risk of family fragmentation.

Addressing Family Conflicts

Furthermore, the ministry is focused on establishing non-judicial mediation mechanisms to address family disputes before they intensify. This involves training qualified mediators and partnering with active community organizations to institutionalize mediation services, thus broadening their availability within family spaces.

Efforts are also being made to expand community hubs that function as multi-service platforms offering counseling and psychosocial support. These hubs will conduct awareness campaigns directed at families regarding the dangers of addiction and risky behaviors, targeting especially those in vulnerable situations.

Promoting Parenting and Care Economy

Regarding parental education, the ministry is adopting an approach centered on capacity building for local stakeholders and supporting field initiatives. This involves training professionals and social workers while encouraging community-led programs that foster family communication and mitigate risk behaviors among children.

Additionally, a national strategy is being developed to promote the care economy, focusing on expanding childcare services and alleviating unpaid burdens within families, particularly for women. This strategy also aims to enhance alternative care services to improve the quality of family upbringing, alongside efforts to professionalize and regulate caregiving occupations.

Commitment to Child Protection

In parallel, the ministry is advancing the action plan for the integrated child protection policy for 2023 to 2026. This includes strengthening local frameworks, expanding support centers, implementing protection protocols, and organizing awareness campaigns directed at children and families.

Social welfare institutions and training centers are also playing pivotal roles in combating school dropout rates and guiding children and youth. Collaborations with national entities aim to enhance psychological support services for children, especially in the most vulnerable cases, to improve care quality.
