Rising Temperatures Signal Hot Weather Across Morocco This Thursday

The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts a marked increase in temperatures for Thursday, May 21, with a mixture of relatively warm and hot conditions expected across several regions, including the northern and central plains, the Souss region, and the southeast. This weather shift raises concerns about potential impacts on daily life and local agriculture.

Weather Overview

As the country braces for hotter conditions, the morning and night may witness light, localized showers or fog in the Mediterranean coastal areas and the northwestern desert regions. Meanwhile, the mountainous regions of the High and Middle Atlas may experience partly cloudy skies, adding to the variability of the weather this time of year.

Winds and Visibility

In addition to rising temperatures, localized gusty winds are anticipated, which may stir up dust in areas such as Tangier, the Anti-Atlas, and the northern desert provinces. This could create challenges for visibility and air quality, particularly in urban and rural settings alike, emphasizing the importance of staying informed about weather changes.

Temperature Ranges

Temperatures are expected to vary significantly throughout the day; lows will range from 5 to 13 degrees Celsius in the Atlas mountains and Rif region, while areas in the southeast, Souss, and Chiadma could see early morning temperatures rise between 22 and 27 degrees. The remainder of the country is forecast to experience lows between 14 and 21 degrees. Overall, daytime temperatures will trend upward, contributing to a notably warm spell.

Coastal Conditions

On the maritime front, the Mediterranean Sea is expected to remain calm with slight choppiness, while the Strait of Gibraltar may experience more robust conditions. The Atlantic coast could see variable wave activity, with localized areas between Tarfaya and Dakhla experiencing slightly rough waters.
