As Morocco gears up for the legislative elections set for September 23, 2026, the Ministry of Interior has announced a crucial update on voter registration. Starting May 15 and running until June 13, eligible citizens will have a 30-day window to ensure their participation in this pivotal democratic exercise.

Streamlining Voter Registration
In a statement following the publication of Ministerial Decision No. 690.26 on April 23, the Ministry emphasized that the revision of voter lists is a necessary step in preparing for the upcoming elections. This initiative aims to update the electoral rolls and ensure they accurately reflect all eligible voters across the country.

Eligible individuals, particularly those reaching the age of 18 by election day, are urged to register within the designated period. Additionally, voters who have changed their place of residence are encouraged to transfer their registration to their new locations, ensuring their voices are heard in their current communities.

Accessible Registration Process
The Ministry has streamlined the registration process, allowing citizens to register or update their information through a dedicated online platform or via local administrative offices. This flexibility is designed to facilitate participation and ensure that all eligible voters can easily engage in the electoral process.

Voters within the same municipality or district who have shifted their addresses are also prompted to update their information within the same timeframe, ensuring the electoral lists are as accurate as possible.

Verifying Registration Status
To further assist citizens, the Ministry encourages voters to verify their registration status. Individuals can do this by sending a text message to the toll-free number 2727 or by checking the official website. If their names do not appear on the electoral list, they are urged to submit their registration applications promptly before the June 13 deadline.

These measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure a comprehensive and precise update of electoral rolls, ultimately enhancing transparency and organization for Morocco’s upcoming elections.

Strategic Implications
The government’s proactive stance on electoral registration underlines its commitment to fostering democratic participation. By engaging voters ahead of time and facilitating the registration process, Morocco aims to bolster civic involvement, improve electoral integrity, and reinforce its democratic framework.
