After six consecutive years of drought, the Al-Masira Dam, Morocco’s second-largest water facility, is witnessing a significant hydrological recovery. Total inflows across major dams in the basin have reached 3.31 billion cubic meters, reflecting a remarkable 40% increase compared to the previous year.
Essential Support for Urban and Agricultural Needs
The dam plays a crucial role in supplying potable water to several cities, including Casablanca, Marrakech, Settat, and Berrechid, as well as rural areas in regions such as El Jadida and Safi. Agriculturally, it irrigates around 100,000 hectares within the Doukkala irrigation perimeter, contributing 250 million cubic meters for the remainder of the farming season, along with an allocation of 27 million cubic meters for Nouvelle irrigation schemes. The dam also generates hydroelectric power for the national grid.
