The 31st edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair concluded in Rabat on Sunday, showcasing a vibrant ten-day celebration of culture and intellect. With France as the guest of honor, the event underscored the rich cultural ties between the two nations, further solidifying Rabat’s status as a nexus of literary activity.

A Celebration of Culture and Literature
Held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, this year’s fair, organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication in collaboration with the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, featured an impressive gathering of 891 exhibitors from over 60 countries. Attendees were treated to an extensive collection of more than 135,000 titles, totaling nearly three million copies, marking it as one of the largest cultural events in the region.

Honoring Ibn Battuta’s Legacy
This edition focused on the legendary Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta, incorporating various activities that highlighted his significant influence on human culture. Organized events explored themes of thought, creativity, and publishing through a diverse program comprising over 300 segments, including the presentation of new releases across various fields of knowledge.

A Hub for Intellectual Exchange
The fair attracted a host of esteemed intellectuals and literary figures, both Moroccan and international. It served as a platform to honor numerous Moroccan scholars and creators while providing emerging talents with opportunities to present their work and connect with eager readers.

In addition to the main events, participating institutions and publishers hosted more than 2,300 cultural and professional activities, including panels, book signings, workshops, and literary readings.

Engaging the Next Generation
To foster a passion for reading among children and youth, the fair featured two interactive spaces. The first drew inspiration from Ibn Battuta’s journeys, while the second recreated the enchanting world of “The Little Prince” through reading and creative workshops aimed at nurturing the bond between younger generations and literature.

According to organizers, over 502,000 visitors attended the fair, reflecting its growing popularity and enhancing Rabat’s reputation as the World Book Capital for 2026.
