Cultural Industries Funded in Morocco-EU Partnership
On Tuesday in Rabat, three new projects designed to support Morocco’s cultural and creative industries were formally launched. These initiatives, stemming from a partnership between Morocco and the European Union, aim to enhance opportunities for young creative talents and connect emerging cultural enterprises to European collaboration networks.
A Collaborative Framework
The signing ceremony was attended by Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, along with the European Union’s ambassador, Dimitris Tsantchev, and representatives from partnering institutions. This agreement is part of a broader program aimed at bolstering the cultural and creative sectors in Morocco.
Key Initiatives: Program Overview
The first project, titled “Cultural Acceleration Program,” is spearheaded by Africalia in collaboration with the Hiba Foundation and the French Institute. It seeks to support young cultural enterprises through training, mentoring, and sustainable economic development initiatives.
The second initiative, “Hi-Fenn: Connect, Create, Resonate,” is led by the Goethe Institute in partnership with the Ali Zawa Foundation and Wallonie Bruxelles. This project emphasizes collaborative creativity and professional exchange between Moroccan and European cultural actors by creating joint spaces for artistic cooperation.
Lastly, the “Creative Morocco Gate” initiative, driven by the Hiba Foundation in partnership with the Association of Independent Broadcasters and Television, aims to facilitate access to information, funding opportunities, and networking for cultural workers, while also supporting young cultural entrepreneurs.
Strategic Importance of Cultural Industries
During the signing ceremony, Bensaid remarked that cultural and creative industries are poised to become a cornerstone of Morocco’s national economy in the coming years. He emphasized that Moroccan-European cooperation in this sector reflects a multidimensional partnership founded on mutual respect and shared interests.
In his remarks, the EU ambassador highlighted that the cultural and creative sectors are increasingly seen as strategic areas for job creation and innovation, particularly for the youth. He noted that these initiatives align with Euro-Mediterranean cooperation goals, which aim to strengthen cultural and creative ties across the Mediterranean.
Building a Dynamic Cultural Ecosystem
Through these projects, Rabat and Brussels seek to construct a more dynamic cultural ecosystem by engaging public institutions, the private sector, and civil society. This collaborative effort is expected to enhance the creative economy and foster a shared cultural presence between Morocco and Europe, ensuring both regions benefit from their rich artistic heritages.
