In a significant achievement for Moroccan education, student Khadija Boumelik from Al-Talouh Preparatory School has been crowned the national champion of the “Arab Reading Challenge” for its tenth edition. The announcement, made during an official ceremony in Rabat, underscores the growing emphasis on reading and literacy across the country.
Celebrating Excellence in Education
The ceremony was presided over by Minister of National Education and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, alongside the Chargé d’Affaires of the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Rabat, Thani Al-Rumaithi, and various educational officials. Boumelik will represent Morocco in the finals of the competition, scheduled to take place in Dubai next October.
Honoring Outstanding Contributions
This year’s challenge also recognized exceptional contributions from educators, with the “Outstanding Supervisor” award going to teacher Azeddine Al-Mounsi from the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regional academy, following a competitive selection process. In the special needs category, Hamza Kamili of Jabir Ibn Hayyan Secondary School in Mohammedia achieved first place. The “Outstanding Institution” award was presented to Moulay Idriss Secondary School in the Fès-Meknès region.
Record Participation Highlights Success
Minister Berrada noted that this year’s competition saw a record participation from over 17,000 educational institutions and more than 7 million students, reflecting the positive impact of this initiative within the educational framework. He emphasized that the challenge fosters values of diligence, ambition, and healthy competition among students.
A Culture of Reading Grows
Hamada Farraj, Director of Projects at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, praised Morocco’s substantial involvement, indicating a 64% increase in participation compared to the previous year, including the participation of students from traditional educational institutions for the first time. Farraj highlighted the ongoing partnership between the organization and Morocco’s Ministry of Education as vital for promoting a reading culture among the youth.
Khadija Boumelik expressed her pride in her achievement, attributing her success to the continuous support from her family and educational institution, reinforcing the collective effort behind personal accomplishments.
