Lead
Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch arrived in Nairobi on Sunday to represent King Mohammed VI at the Africa-France Summit and the fourth meeting of the Congo Basin Climate Commission. These events, scheduled for May 11 and 12, aim to enhance economic partnerships and address urgent environmental challenges.

Akhannouch’s Diplomatic Mission to Nairobi

Arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Akhannouch was greeted by senior Kenyan officials, including Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Development Jeffrey Roko and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Abraham Korir Sing’Oei. He was also accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Abderrazak Lkalssi.

A Robust Moroccan Delegation

The Moroccan delegation at the two summits includes key ministers: Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development; Amin Al-Tahraoui, Minister of Health and Social Protection; and Karim Zidan, Minister Delegate for Investment and Policy Evaluation. Representing the private sector is a delegation from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, led by its President Shikib Laalj.

Strategic Focus of the Summits

The Africa-France Summit aims to explore avenues for deeper economic collaboration and investment between African nations and France. Discussions will center on training, development initiatives, and collective responses to global challenges.

On the agenda of the Fourth Congo Basin Climate Commission summit will be strategies for resource mobilization to support the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, as part of preparations for a donor roundtable set for May 26 in Brazzaville. This meeting is critical for adopting new political, technical, and strategic documents related to climate financing and sustainable development.
