Remittances from Moroccans living abroad saw a significant increase, reaching 18.54 billion dirhams by the end of February 2026, compared to 17.80 billion dirhams during the same period last year, according to recent data.
A monthly report from the Office des Changes on external exchanges highlighted that these remittances grew by 4.2% until the end of February 2026, reflecting the continued positive momentum of these financial transfers.
In 2025, remittances from Moroccans abroad totaled 122.02 billion dirhams, up from 118.97 billion dirhams in 2024, marking a yearly increase of 2.6%, an indicator of the strength of this vital resource for the national economy.
In this context, Bank Al-Maghrib has projected that these remittances will continue on an upward trajectory in the coming years, with an average annual growth rate of approximately 3.1% from 2025 to 2027, reaching around 130 billion dirhams.
Remittances from Moroccans residing abroad are of immense importance, being one of the primary sources of foreign currency. They are expected to contribute to enhancing official reserve assets, which could reach about 448 billion dirhams by 2027, equivalent to nearly five and a half months of imports of goods and services.
This performance further reinforces the role of these remittances as a crucial lever for supporting the national economy’s balances, particularly in terms of the balance of payments and funding external needs.
