The Moroccan Cinematographic Center has selected five animation projects to represent the country at the upcoming International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France, from June 23 to 26. This initiative highlights Morocco’s commitment to nurture its national animation industry and gain visibility on international platforms.
Showcasing Moroccan Talent
The Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) initiated an open call aimed at local professionals with animation projects, seeking to identify promising works that can effectively represent Moroccan cinema. The selected projects will participate in pitch sessions at one of the world’s most prestigious animation markets.
Upon closing submissions, the CCM received 25 applications, which included both short and feature-length films as well as animated series. These projects were meticulously evaluated based on established professional and artistic criteria.
An Esteemed Judging Panel
A distinguished panel comprising notable figures in the animation and film sectors assessed the entries. Among the jury members are renowned director and producer Sofia El Khiyari, Mohamed Bioud, head of audiovisual and cinema at the French Institute in Morocco and former artistic director of the Meknes International Animation Film Festival, as well as Tarek Khalami representing the CCM.
Following a rigorous selection process, the panel chose five standout projects: “Fati the Hen” by Elias Khalifa (short film), “The Tattoo” by Samia Zarou (feature film), “Mini Maestros” by Yassine Lahriichi (series), “Senor Braga” by Lymis Khayrat (short film), and “Ziryab – Strings of Time” by Ghita Amrati (feature film).
Opportunities on the Global Stage
The creators of these projects will present their works to international professionals during the market sessions, opening doors for development, production, and distribution on the global stage.
Through this initiative, the CCM underscores its ongoing commitment to support Morocco’s animation sector, fostering young talent and enhancing its presence in the global film industry. Such efforts not only enrich the domestic cultural landscape but also position Moroccan animation within the international spotlight.
