Lamine Yamal: Football is for enjoyment and support, not to insult people due to their identity or beliefs

Lamine Yamal expressed his displeasure regarding the chants heard from Spanish fans during the match between Spain and Egypt on Tuesday, which included a racist phrase: “Those who don’t jump are Muslim.”

Yamal wrote on his personal Instagram account that although these chants were directed at the Pharaohs and not aimed at him personally, he still views them as unacceptable and disrespectful towards his religion as a Muslim.

He stated, “Football is for enjoyment and support, not to insult people because of their identity or beliefs.”

Yamal added, “Using religion as a way to mock makes you seem ignorant and racist.”

In conclusion, he thanked the fans who attended to support the Spanish team, while also expressing his eagerness to continue competing in the World Cup with sportsmanship and mutual respect.
