AEGIS and the Ministry of Industry and Trade Organize a Seminar to Launch a National Initiative for Cybersecurity in the Pharmaceutical Industry

The AEGIS Group, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, is organizing a high-level strategic seminar focusing on safeguarding pharmaceutical production environments from cyber threats. This initiative marks a first of its kind within the Moroccan industrial landscape.

The seminar aims to bring together government officials, industry stakeholders, and specialized experts to discuss ways to enhance the cybersecurity of operational technology (OT), viewed as a fundamental pillar for improving the sector’s competitiveness.

This event is organized amid profound shifts within the Moroccan pharmaceutical sector, driven by increasing ambitions for national health sovereignty and more stringent international requirements. In recent years, the pharmaceutical industry has embarked on a comprehensive modernization journey, covering production tools, monitoring systems, and tracking mechanisms, which have contributed to improved performance and competitiveness.

However, this digital transformation, based on principles of Industry 4.0—characterized by automation, smart connectivity, and remote monitoring—has simultaneously increased exposure to cyber risks, particularly within sensitive industrial environments. Operational technologies, once isolated from information networks, have become direct targets for cyberattacks, which could result in production halts, disruptions in supply chains, drug shortages, and potential risks to patient safety.

In this context, cybersecurity in Morocco is no longer limited to regulatory compliance; it has become a strategic element within a comprehensive vision aimed at enhancing trust in the industrial sector and improving its international positioning.

The seminar’s agenda will focus on six main topics that combine strategic and practical dimensions, addressing the relationship between cybersecurity and health sovereignty, alongside a presentation of national industrial ambitions in the context of digital transformation. It will also introduce a dedicated Security Operations Center (SOC) project for IT and OT environments.

Additionally, discussions will cover the legal and regulatory framework, emphasizing that compliance can turn into a competitive advantage for organizations able to anticipate international requirements. The practical aspect of the seminar will feature a live demonstration of a cyberattack simulation on a pharmaceutical production line, showcasing immediate detection and response mechanisms.

In this regard, group officials remarked that industrial cybersecurity is no longer an option but an urgent necessity to ensure continuous production, protect public health, and enhance the sector’s credibility at an international level. They stressed the importance of adopting innovative approaches that integrate IT and OT environments, providing real-time monitoring and response solutions.

This initiative is built on the combined expertise of AEGIS Group’s units, covering compliance, governance, and cyber security in both informational and industrial domains, under a comprehensive vision aimed at establishing an integrated protection system.

Through this seminar, the group seeks to launch a sustainable momentum that bolsters Morocco’s standing as an African reference in industrial cybersecurity, by developing local competencies and forming advanced technological partnerships that meet the needs of security and competitiveness.
