World Poetry Day takes on new significance this year as Morocco celebrates its literary heritage through a landmark initiative, highlighting the pivotal role of poetry in promoting cultural and human values. The event, organized by the Poetry House in collaboration with UNESCO, showcases prominent voices, including notable Palestinian poets.
A Celebration of Poetry
From April 30 to May 2, 2026, the National Institute of Music and Choreographic Art will host the inaugural “Garden of Poetry” festival. Supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and in partnership with the Parents Association of Al-Fath Preparatory School, this cultural endeavor aims to merge the celebration of World Poetry Day with the events of “Rabat, the World Capital of Books 2026,” as envisioned by UNESCO.
Engaging Activities for Young Poets
The festival promises an enriching program, including both theoretical and practical workshops on poetry writing for over twenty students passionate about reading and crafting poetry. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to visit the International Book Fair, focusing on the Poetry House booth, where they can explore a wealth of published poetic works that the institution has proudly showcased every year with governmental support.
Honoring Emerging Talents
The festival will culminate in an artistic and poetic evening, where young talents will present readings of their creative works alongside the distribution of symbolic awards, including poetry collections and certificates of appreciation. This initiative also emphasizes a culture of recognition, as celebrated poet and cultural figure Mourad Qadiri, head of the Poetry House in Morocco, will be honored for his significant contributions to the literary world. His work will be featured during the event, alongside a poetic homage delivered by poet Fatihah Nouh.
The Intersection of Poetry and Music
Recognizing the deep connection between poetry and music, the festival will feature performances by artist and oud player Mohamed al-Ishraqi, known for his enchanting compositions of contemporary Moroccan poetry. Renowned performer Jamal al-Ghaywani will also grace the evening, showcasing his latest works, creating a compelling fusion of lyrical expression and musical artistry that promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.
