The ongoing war between Iran and Israel has escalated significantly over the past two days, with an expansion of confrontations and an increase in military strikes, indicating that the conflict is entering a more complicated phase on both regional and international levels.
On Thursday, March 5, American and Israeli aircraft conducted a series of intensive airstrikes targeting military sites within Iran, including bases and facilities linked to missile programs in several cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Kermanshah. Iranian media sources reported casualties and injuries, along with significant damage to military infrastructure.
Iran responded to these attacks by launching ballistic missiles and drones toward targets within Israel, with sirens sounding in several areas, including Tel Aviv. Reports also indicated that Iranian retaliation targeted American interests in the region in response to the airstrikes.
In a related development, a notable incident occurred when drones attacked an airport in the Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan, injuring several civilians. Baku accused Tehran of being behind the attack, a claim that the Iranian authorities denied, leading to heightened regional tensions.
As of March 6, Israeli airstrikes continued, targeting new locations in the Iranian capital, Tehran, with reports of strong explosions heard in several neighborhoods throughout the city. Concurrently, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that it had conducted a combined missile and drone strike on Israel as part of an operation dubbed “Promise Fulfilled 4.”
The scope of the confrontation has also extended to Lebanon, where Israel conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in the southern suburbs of Beirut. In response, Hezbollah fired rockets toward northern Israel, clearly indicating the risk of the conflict transforming into a broader regional confrontation.
Politically, Iran has warned that it will continue to expand its attacks should strikes against its territory persist, while American statements suggested that military operations may continue indefinitely.
These developments come amid growing international concerns over the war’s impact on regional stability and the global economy, particularly given rising oil prices and increasing anxiety about navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
