The Cubs Shine Again and Become Champions of North Africa

Express TV: Mustafa Filali

The Moroccan Under-17 national team continued its impressive performances, achieving its third consecutive victory after defeating their Egyptian counterparts 2-1 in a match held on Monday evening as part of the North African Football Union Championship taking place in Libya.

The “Atlas Cubs” established their style from the first minutes, displaying attacking efficiency and a clear desire to score, which translated into an opening goal in the 24th minute through striker Rami Loukmani. Despite Moroccan dominance, the Egyptian team managed to equalize just four minutes before the end of the first half through Adel Alaa.

In the second half, the Moroccan team continued to control the match, creating several goal-scoring opportunities until the decisive goal came in the closing minutes, a powerful shot from Marwan Bentabl, deflected into the net by Adnan Boujoufi, deceiving the Egyptian goalkeeper.

Egypt’s difficulties increased after they finished the match with ten players following the expulsion of defender Yassin Tamer Abu al-Qasim, giving an advantage to the Cubs in the crucial final minutes.

With this victory, the Moroccan team raised its points total to nine, leading the standings with a perfect score, officially securing its place in the finals of the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and being crowned champions of the North African tournament.

The Moroccan team had begun its campaign with a win over Tunisia (2-0) before defeating Algeria (3-0), confirming its strong readiness for upcoming continental challenges.

The “Cubs” are expected to conclude their participation in this tournament with a match against the Libyan team next Sunday, in a formal game after securing qualification and the title.
