Launch of the Reconstruction Project for Hassan II Hospital in Agadir to Enhance Healthcare Services in the Souss-Massa Region

Mr. Amin Tahraoui, alongside Saïd Amzazi, announced the reconstruction project for the Hassan II Regional Hospital. This initiative is part of the national healthcare system reform strategy discussed in a meeting dedicated to exploring the details of this structural project.

This project is expected to represent a significant upgrade to healthcare services in the Souss-Massa region, considering that the current hospital, established in 1961, no longer meets modern healthcare service requirements, both in terms of infrastructure and the quality of patient care.

The project involves rebuilding the hospital on the same site according to modern standards. A new-generation healthcare facility, comprising four floors and a capacity ranging from 415 to 450 beds, will be constructed with advanced medical equipment. Enhancements will also include the establishment and expansion of emergency medical services as well as the development of oncology services, with a budget estimated at 1.1 billion dirhams.

To ensure the commencement of construction works, the hospital will temporarily close starting from the end of March 2026, with organizational measures in place to guarantee the continuity of healthcare services. Emergency cases, pregnant women, and patients requiring hospitalization will be redirected to the Mohammed VI University Hospital, while routine consultations and examinations will be referred to the “Day Clinic” associated with the institution.

This plan also aims to reinforce healthcare services in neighboring provinces to alleviate pressure, with health centers continuing to provide their services. Furthermore, it includes the redistribution of healthcare staff within the regional system while safeguarding all their rights.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection confirmed that these measures are part of a comprehensive vision aimed at modernizing healthcare facilities and improving service quality to meet the expectations of the region’s residents, while ensuring the continuity of services in a safe and coordinated manner during the construction period.
