Fes Hosts “From Door to Door” Race to Promote Sports Tourism and Revive Heritage

Fes is set to host the “Fes From Door to Door” race on Sunday, March 29, in an athletic event expected to attract around 2,000 male and female participants, both professionals and amateurs, offering a blend of sporting challenge and an exploration of the historical heritage of the spiritual capital.

The organizers of the event explained during a press conference that the race features an exceptional route connecting the prominent gates of the ancient city, primarily Bab Boujloud and Bab Abi Jinoud, on an urban course that allows participants to immerse themselves in the local history.

Younes Saad Alami, head of the media and communication committee at the Fes Saïs Association, emphasized that this event aligns with a vision to enhance the cultural, touristic, and sporting appeal of the city, by valuing its historical spaces and revitalizing them with a modern perspective.

He added that the race is part of a broader dynamic the city is experiencing, embodying the integration of culture, sports, and tourism through a unique experience that combines physical effort with heritage discovery.

This event is organized in partnership with the Fes-Boulemane Athletics League, the regional academy for education and training in the Fes-Meknes region, alongside Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University, as part of a program aimed at establishing Fes as a capital of civil society and a hub for creativity and initiative.

Mustapha Al-Gharik, head of the Fes-Boulemane Athletics League and a board member of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, highlighted that this race represents a “true beginning” for road races in the region and contributes to enhancing the city’s tourist appeal while encouraging youth to engage in sports.

He noted that the event, approved by the federation, will see the participation of national team athletes alongside amateurs and professionals, with incentives for the winners.

The race, which is open to participants aged 16 and above, aims to promote a new tourist style based on experience and immersion in heritage, within a broader dynamic preparing the city to host major events, especially leading up to the 2030 World Cup.

The organizers hope to turn “Fes From Door to Door” into an annual gathering for running enthusiasts, solidifying the city’s status as a distinctive sports and cultural destination.
