The National Human Rights Council warns of the increasing risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in the digital space, emphasizing the need to strengthen legal and technical protection mechanisms to address new threats that may affect rights and freedoms.

The council, chaired by Amina Bouyaach, revealed that approximately 13 million cyberattacks targeting Morocco have been recorded recently, highlighting the growing security challenges facing the national digital environment.

The same source clarified that the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence technologies presents complex challenges related to personal data protection, combating digital misinformation, and countering the illegal use of technology. It called for balanced digital governance that ensures the benefits of these technologies while minimizing their risks.

The council affirmed that addressing cybersecurity threats requires enhancing cooperation between national institutions and international bodies, in addition to developing capabilities for monitoring and responding to cyberattacks, amid increasing reliance on digital systems across various critical sectors.

The rights organization stressed that protecting the digital space has become an essential part of safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights, necessitating ongoing legislative and technical support to meet the challenges posed by the accelerating digital transformation.
