The Liberals Conclude Their Extraordinary Conference in El Jadida: Democratic Discussion on Leadership and Renewed Commitment to Government Reform
A A

The National Rally of Independents concluded its extraordinary national conference on Saturday evening in El Jadida, marking a pivotal political and organizational moment for the party. The conference emphasized the option of democratic leadership rotation and reaffirmed its image as a political organization based on institutional legitimacy and the renewal of structures under clear internal rules.

Held amidst shifting national and international contexts, the conference served as an opportunity to review the outcomes of the previous phase. Party leader Aziz Akhannouch presented a political report that outlined the transformation the “RNI” has undergone in recent years, evolving from a party focused on organizational restructuring to a political force that manages government operations and positions itself as a key player in the national landscape.

The final statement highlighted the party’s pride in the leadership of King Mohammed VI and the diplomatic achievements of the Kingdom, particularly regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue. It praised the international momentum supporting the autonomy initiative and considered the recent UN resolution a turning point in solidifying this direction.

The conference also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the democratic development project led by the King and its support for the state’s social projects, ranging from expanding social protection to reducing regional disparities and enhancing economic inclusion. It specifically praised the royal directives for urgent interventions to assist communities affected by climate fluctuations, along with the efforts of the Royal Armed Forces and public authorities.

Organizationally, the conference addressed the decision for rotating leadership within the party, viewing this as a democratic choice that reflects the maturity of the party experience. It commended the role played by Aziz Akhannouch since 2016 in modernizing structures, strengthening internal governance, and expanding the base of activists, particularly among youth and women.

In the governmental sphere, the conference expressed full support for the government led by the party, praising what it deemed major structural reforms in social protection, direct social support, health, education, and investment promotion. Emphasis was placed on continuing to implement the government program to the end of the legislative term.

The statement also stressed a rejection of populism and emotional discourse, advocating for an evaluation of political performance based on tangible results. It announced the party’s readiness to engage in upcoming elections with a future-oriented vision focusing on economic competitiveness, digital transformation, and enhancing food and energy sovereignty.

At the conclusion of its sessions, the conference expressed confidence in the party’s new leadership, headed by Mohamed Chouaki, affirming that the upcoming phase will focus on safeguarding achievements, broadening engagement with expertise, and enhancing proximity to citizens. This is considered a fundamental entry point for solidifying the party’s position as an effective reformative force within the national political scene.
