Tangier Med Port Surpasses 11 Million Containers in 2025, Reinforcing Its Logistical Leadership
In 2025, container processing at Tangier Med reached a total of 11,106,164 twenty-foot equivalent units, marking an 8.4% increase compared to 2024, according to a statement from the port authority. The source attributed this growth primarily to the recent expansion of the TC4 terminal, operated by APM Terminals.
Additionally, international truck traffic saw a rise of 3.6%, reaching 535,203 trucks, driven by an increase in exports of industrial products (+4.8%) and food agricultural products (+4.3%), underscoring the strategic role of the port in supporting national exports.
Regarding passenger traffic, the number of travelers reached 3,220,422 and 895,341 vehicles, reflecting growth rates of 5.7% and 5%, respectively. The operational measures during the “Marhaba” operation, including the implementation of a confirmed ticket system, led to improved flow management and ensured a smooth passage for travelers.
In terms of goods, solid bulk experienced a decrease of 11% to 522,493 tons due to fluctuating grain imports, while liquid bulk continued its positive performance, increasing by 13% to 8,641,481 tons. The two car terminals processed 526,862 vehicles, representing a 12% decline compared to 2024 due to production adjustments and restructuring of flows in international markets, which included vehicles destined for export from Renault, SOMACA, and Stellantis factories.
Total cargo handled across all activities amounted to 161 million tons, marking an increase of 13.3% compared to 2024. In maritime navigation, 16,686 vessels docked, reflecting a decrease of 4.5% due to the replacement of some RoPax units with larger capacity ships. However, the port welcomed 1,319 mega-ships over 290 meters in length, an increase of 8.4%, attributed to improved docking operations and enhanced service quality.
These results reflect the commitment of all parties involved in the port ecosystem and the efficiency of operational performance, confirming Tangier Med’s leadership at both the Mediterranean and African levels in serving national and international logistics chains.
