Requests for the exploitation of 361 mining parts covering 1.3 million hectares in the Tafilelt and Figuig regions

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has announced the launch of a public competition notice No. 1/DGMH/2026, concerning 361 mining sections of interest, covering a vast area estimated at about 13,000 square kilometers, equivalent to 1.3 million hectares, which represents 22% of the total mining area of Tafilelt and Figuig.

According to a press release from the ministry, this announcement includes innovative measures based on a multi-criteria approach that covers technical, financial, and local socio-economic aspects, alongside respect for health and safety requirements. It also emphasizes the rational use of land and natural resources, particularly water and energy, by resorting to renewable energy, optimizing raw material use, and promoting circular economy principles.

The announcement further includes additional incentives for applications that propose an integrated model for sustainable mining, combining the enhancement of the circular economy with the adoption of renewable energies and storage technologies, as well as implementing the Marrakech Declaration dated November 24, 2025, adopted at the international minerals conference in Morocco, through the adoption of environmental principles and good social governance (ESG).

The ministry confirmed that this new approach will enable optimal valuation of the significant mineral resources available in the region, notably gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, barite, and other mineral resources specified in Annex 2 of the expression of interest.

The ministry called on interested candidates to submit their applications by May 15, 2026, to the regional directorate of the Energy Transition sector in Errachidia for sections located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region and to the regional directorate in Oujda for sections located in the eastern region, noting that the announcement was published in both Arabic and French on its official website.

The statement concluded that this measure, initiated following consultations with various stakeholders, reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to fostering sustainable, responsible, and integrated mining development that contributes to the valuation of national resources and supports economic and social development in the Tafilelt and Figuig mining region.
