Exclusive to Express TV: Sharp Division Within the Football Association Over the Successor to Regragui… The Issue Reaches Square One
By: Mustafa Filali
In a new and exclusive development, “Express TV” has learned that the meeting of the executive board of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, held today, did not come to a definitive conclusion regarding the name of the new coach for the national senior team, despite a near-official decision to part ways with the former coach.
According to the information we received, the meeting involved prolonged discussions that lasted for hours, clearly highlighting a division within the executive board between two main factions, with neither side able to impose its choice definitively.
Wahbi… Project 2030
Our sources confirm that a significant faction within the federation has renewed its support for the name of Mohamed Wahbi, based on a strong conviction of his ability to lead the World Cup 2030 project, especially following his success with the under-20 generation that won the World Cup.
This faction believes that the current phase requires a coach who is close to the emerging generation and well-acquainted with the intricacies of work within the national technical department, ensuring the continuity of the project without sudden breaks.
Skitoui… The Man of the Moment
Conversely, another faction strongly insists on the name of Tarik Skitoui, considering him exceptionally suited for the moment, in light of his success in various assignments given to him under pressure of results and circumstances.
Supporters of this option emphasized during the meeting the necessity of appointing a coach with a strong personality and extensive field experience, capable of restoring discipline and efficiency as soon as possible.
The Page of Regragui is Turned
According to “Express TV” sources, the meeting effectively marked the end of Walid Regragui’s era, as it became clear that renewing confidence in him was no longer an option, despite previous attempts to reconcile tensions between him and the federation president, Fouzi Lekjaa.
The most significant takeaway from today’s meeting is that the decision on the appointment has returned squarely to the starting point, with no official preference for any name, leaving the competition between Wahbi and Skitoui, given their work within the national technical department, which provides the federation with a quicker adjustment space.
The coming hours will be crucial in this matter, as we await the formulation of an internal consensus that will lead to an official announcement, ending the period of anticipation that currently prevails in Moroccan sports circles.
