“Business Leaders” in Spain and Portugal Support the Business Coalition with Morocco in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup
Business unions in Spain and Portugal have confirmed that hosting the 2030 World Cup represents a historic opportunity to reshape the economic landscape in the Mediterranean. This event aims to transform into a transcontinental business alliance placing Rabat, Madrid, and Lisbon at the heart of a new economic gravity center, emphasizing that the three countries are not only preparing for the World Cup but also crafting a “unified investment identity.”
This statement was made during the Moroccan-Spanish-Portuguese business forum on the 2030 World Cup, organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) in collaboration with its Spanish (CEOE) and Portuguese (CIP) counterparts in Salé. The goal is to mobilize the private sector and activate the necessary investment and technical partnerships to ensure the success of this global event and benefit the national business community.
Antonio Garamendi, president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations, affirmed that the tournament represents a comprehensive strategic project, extending beyond its sporting dimension to serve as a platform for investment and joint economic growth. He noted that expected revenues will exceed billions of euros, with a focus on infrastructure, mobility, tourism, innovation, and the creation of multifunctional platforms for stadiums and sports facilities. He added that innovation, technology, and environmental and social sustainability are fundamental pillars to ensure project viability and minimize investment risks.
Arlindo Monteiro, president of the Portuguese Confederation of Entrepreneurs, explained that the World Cup serves as a strategic bridge linking Europe with Africa, enhancing economic relations between Morocco and Portugal and broadening investment horizons in tourism, hospitality, infrastructure, and logistics services. He emphasized the preparedness of Portuguese companies to coordinate with partners in Morocco and Spain to enhance economic integration across the region.
Both officials stressed the importance of innovation, digital technologies, internationalization of businesses, and creating qualified job opportunities, considering the 2030 World Cup as a launching point for a new phase of shared prosperity and economic integration in the Mediterranean.
