The African Champions League “Total Energies” continues this weekend with the fourth round of the group stage, marking a critical phase in the race towards the quarter-finals as the competition reaches its midpoint after three rounds.

The leading clubs aim to strengthen their positions at the top, while the chasing teams look to revive their hopes for qualification before it’s too late, amidst fierce and highly competitive matches across the various groups.

In Group A, all eyes are on the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where title holders Pyramids will host Morocco’s RS Berkane on Sunday, February 1, in a fiery clash for the top spot. Both teams share seven points, with RS Berkane enjoying the advantage on goal difference, making this face-off crucial in the battle for supremacy. In another match within the same group, Rivers United from Nigeria will face Zambian side Power Dynamos.

Group B will witness a strong crowd on Saturday as Tanzania’s Young Africans welcome Egypt’s Al Ahly, the record title-holder, looking to secure a win that brings them a step closer to qualification. Meanwhile, Young Africans, currently in second place, aims to close the gap and strengthen their position in the standings. In the second match, Morocco’s Royal Army will meet Algeria’s Kabylie in the same evening.

The matches in Group C kick off on Friday, January 30, with a top encounter between Sudan’s Al Hilal and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, separated by only goal difference, with Sundowns leading the group. The group’s matches continue on Sunday when Al-Mouloudia of Algeria hosts DR Congo’s Saint Éloi Lupopo, representing a last chance for the hosts to return to the competition.

In Group D, matches will commence on Saturday with Angola’s Petro Atletico facing Mali’s Stade Malien, the current group leader, who seeks a positive result to enhance their chances of reaching the quarter-finals. The round concludes on Sunday with a highly anticipated match between Tanzania’s Simba and Tunisia’s Esperance, which could have a direct impact on the final standings of the group.

The fourth round is a pivotal point in the tournament where early qualification scenarios may begin to emerge while intensifying the competition for teams still clinging to their hopes.
