Royal Air Maroc Opens New Air Base in Tetouan to Enhance International Connectivity in Northern Morocco

To strengthen its air network in northern Morocco and improve air links between the region and European and international markets, Royal Air Maroc is opening a new air base at Tetouan–Sania Ramel Airport.

This initiative comes as part of the company’s developmental strategy, following the acquisition of around ten new aircraft and the launch of over twenty international routes recently.

The opening of this new base, developed in close partnership with the Moroccan National Tourism Office, aims to meet the increasing demand for international flights departing from northern Morocco. It seeks to complement the current air services available from the Tangier base, contributing to the region’s tourism and economic attractiveness.

Starting March 27, the national carrier will begin operating direct flights connecting Tetouan with Paris, London-Gatwick, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, and Malaga, further enhancing the northern region’s access to key European capitals.

Domestically, Royal Air Maroc will strengthen air connectivity between Tetouan and Casablanca by adding three new weekly flights, raising the frequency to five flights a week. This will facilitate seamless connections with various destinations in the airline’s international network via Casablanca.

These routes will be operated using modern Embraer 190 aircraft, known for their comfort and suitability for mid-range flights.

In this context, Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, stated that the opening of the new air base in Tetouan aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s tourism development. He noted that this step will help connect the northern region with European tourist markets, enhancing its visibility among international travelers and boosting the country’s tourism and economic dynamics.

For his part, Ashraf Faida, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, emphasized that this initiative is part of the national strategy aimed at fostering balanced, sustainable tourism growth with high added value. He affirmed that improving air connectivity is a key lever for enhancing the attractiveness of Moroccan tourist destinations.

The establishment of the Tetouan base complements the Tangier air platform, involving the reprogramming of travel days and expansion of proposed frequencies, thus offering greater flexibility and wider options for local travelers and international tourists.

Tickets for these flights are expected to go on sale starting Wednesday, January 7, 2026, through the Royal Air Maroc website, call centers, and the airline’s commercial agencies, as well as a network of travel agencies, reflecting the company’s commitment to bringing its services closer to customers and enhancing its air presence in northern Morocco.
