A partial collapse of a residential building in the Al-Akari neighborhood of Rabat on Monday, January 5, 2026, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left four others with varying degrees of injuries, according to local authorities in the Rabat region.
Sources indicated that the collapsed structure consisted of a ground floor designated for commercial use, as well as two residential floors that housed a single family, before it experienced a partial collapse leading to this tragic outcome.
Upon receiving notification of the incident, local and security authorities, along with civil protection teams, promptly arrived at the scene, where search and rescue operations commenced. Necessary precautionary measures were taken, including securing the area surrounding the building and ensuring the safety of adjacent structures to prevent any potential risks.
The injured were transported to the hospital for necessary medical examinations and treatment based on the severity of their injuries.
Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse and establish legal responsibilities based on the findings of the inquiry.
