Morocco and Pakistan Strengthen Their Military-Diplomatic Partnership by Signing a Memorandum of Understanding

In a complex international context characterized by security challenges and rapid geopolitical shifts, Morocco continues to expand its network of strategic partnerships beyond traditional circles, placing defense cooperation at the core of its vision to enhance sovereignty and build advanced national capabilities. In this framework, Morocco and Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of defense cooperation today, Tuesday, in the capital Rabat. This step reflects a shared desire to elevate military relations and open broader avenues for coordination and joint action.

The memorandum was signed during the working visit of Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, to the Kingdom of Morocco, which will last three days with a high-level delegation, as part of efforts to strengthen and modernize bilateral cooperation between Rabat and Islamabad. According to an official statement, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government responsible for National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi, welcomed the Pakistani official, where discussions focused on ways to develop military cooperation and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, Lieutenant General Mohammed Braid, along with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan accredited in Rabat. The memorandum of understanding covers multiple areas, most notably military training, organizing joint maneuvers and exercises, and cooperation in cybersecurity, amid increasing digital threats related to defense and military infrastructures.

The memorandum also opens new horizons for cooperation in the defense industry, through the exchange of technical expertise and enhancement of manufacturing capabilities, in addition to cooperation in military health and the establishment of a joint mechanism for monitoring and coordination to ensure the practical implementation of the agreed activities. This step falls within the long-standing friendly relations between Rabat and Islamabad and reflects Morocco’s trend toward diversifying its defense partnerships and engaging with new partners, thereby reinforcing its position as a regional actor in the fields of security and stability.
