50,000 tons of Moroccan peppers invade the German market, competing with Spain and the Netherlands.
Morocco has reinforced its presence in the German market, registering a new record in sweet pepper exports, with shipments exceeding 50,000 tons in a single season. This achievement reflects the increasing competitiveness of Moroccan products in Europe, according to data from the “EastFruit” platform.
The same data revealed that Germany imported approximately 52,400 tons of Moroccan sweet peppers during the 2024/25 season, which runs from October to September, valued at nearly 120 million euros. This marks a 20% increase compared to the previous season, reaching a record high.
Despite climatic challenges faced by some producing regions in Morocco, particularly in Souss-Massa, where heavy rainfall slowed harvests, Moroccan peppers continued to strengthen their position in the German market, maintaining consistent upward momentum.
Moroccan sweet pepper exports to Germany have shown steady growth over six consecutive seasons, with an average annual increase of nearly 30%. This has made Germany the third largest market for this product after Spain and France, holding a share of about 14.7% of total exports.
The rise in shipments to Germany, along with those to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, has allowed Moroccan exporters to achieve a new seasonal record. This underscores Morocco’s capacity to diversify its European markets and solidify its presence within them.
Moroccan sweet pepper exports to Germany are spread throughout the year, with a peak in shipments between January and May. The highest monthly volume during the 2024/25 season reached around 6,100 tons in March.
Although Spain and the Netherlands continue to dominate, supplying approximately 80% of Germany’s sweet pepper imports, Morocco has maintained its position as the third-largest supplier since the 2019/20 season, with a steady rise in its market share.
The percentage of Moroccan peppers among Germany’s imports has increased from 4.5% during the 2019/20 season to over 11.7% in the 2024/25 season, reflecting the growing dynamics of Moroccan products within European markets.
The “EastFruit” platform noted that this development confirms Morocco’s status as a key player in the European sweet pepper market and reflects the strategy of Moroccan exporters to enhance quality and broaden market reach amid the rising European demand for fresh products.
