200% Tax Threatens French Champagne

200% Tax Threatens French Champagne
A A

President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne in response to President Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to join the “Peace Council” that is being established.

Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump stated, “I will impose a 200% tariff on wine and champagne (imported from France); he will agree to join, but he is not obliged to agree.”

Close associates of President Macron told Agence France-Presse on Monday that France “is not committed to responding” to the invitation to join the “Peace Council” at this stage.
