The Ivorians kick off their title defense campaign with a hard-fought victory over Mozambique

The Ivorian national team, holders of the Africa Cup of Nations title, secured their first win in the current edition by defeating Mozambique 1-0 in a match held Wednesday evening at the Grand Marrakech Stadium, as part of the opening round. The only goal of the match was scored by Amad Diallo in the 49th minute, granting the “Elephants” their first three points in the quest to defend their title.

The first half saw a cautious defensive approach from the Mozambicans, who managed to keep their net clean despite repeated attempts by the Ivorians to dominate midfield and create scoring opportunities, though none posed a real threat to the goal.

As the second half began, the Ivorians intensified their attacks, with Amad Diallo capitalizing on a precise pass inside the penalty area to score. The team continued to press until the end of the match but failed to add more goals. With this win, the Ivory Coast tops Group F with three points, awaiting the later match between Cameroon and Gabon at Agadir Stadium.
