Senegal Makes a Strong Start, Opening Their Africa Cup of Nations Campaign with a 3-0 Win Over Botswana
The Senegalese national team kicked off their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 with a convincing victory, defeating Botswana 3-0 in a match held on Tuesday evening at the Grand Tangier Stadium, as part of the first round of the group stage.
The “Lions of Teranga” asserted their dominance from the early minutes of the match, translating their superiority into the first goal scored by Nicolas Jackson in the 40th minute. The same player then increased the lead with a second goal just after the start of the second half, specifically in the 58th minute.
As the match neared its conclusion, Senegal continued to apply offensive pressure, culminating in a third goal from Sharif Ndiaye in the 90th minute, confirming their clear superiority in their first appearance in the continental competition.
With this win, Senegal topped Group D with three points, while Botswana found themselves at the bottom of the standings with no points, awaiting the outcomes of the remaining matches to clarify the competition dynamics within the group.
