The Royal Gendarmerie in Sidi Taybi apprehended an individual on Tuesday, November 25, after he posted a defamatory message on Facebook, accusing a local official of “selling administrative certificates” without providing any evidence to support his claims.
According to available information, the official filed a formal complaint, prompting the gendarmerie to summon the author of the post for questioning as part of the investigation into the matter. Following an initial inquiry, the arrested individual was placed in custody under direct orders from the competent public prosecutor.
Sources indicated that the apprehended individual will be referred to the judiciary within 48 hours to continue the legal investigation and determine responsibilities in accordance with Moroccan laws aimed at combating false claims and slander.
This incident underscores the seriousness of making accusations on social media platforms without verifying their accuracy, as such actions could damage individuals’ reputations and disrupt administrative processes. It also reaffirms the law’s commitment to protecting the rights of public employees and penalizing violators.
The investigations will continue until the individual is presented before the public prosecutor to take appropriate legal action.
