Malawi Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Western Sahara and Praises Security Council Decision

Malawi reaffirmed its consistent position and full support for Morocco’s territorial integrity during a meeting in Rabat on Wednesday. The country praised the United Nations Security Council’s endorsement of Resolution 2797, which establishes the autonomy plan as the basis for reaching a political settlement regarding the ongoing Western Sahara dispute.

This stance was articulated by Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. George Chaponda, during discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.

During these talks, the Malawian Foreign Minister, who is on his first official visit to Morocco, commended Resolution 2797, endorsed by the UN Security Council, which reinforces Morocco’s sovereignty through the proposed autonomy plan as a serious, reliable, and lasting framework for achieving a political solution to the Western Sahara conflict.
