King Mohammed VI: It’s Time for a Unified Morocco from Tangier to Lagouira
King Mohammed VI has confirmed that Morocco is entering a new phase in cementing its sovereignty over the Sahara, following the Security Council’s vote in favor of recognizing the autonomy initiative as the realistic solution to the conflict. In a speech directed to the Moroccan people on Friday evening, the King stated: “The time has come for a united Morocco, from Tangier to Lagouira, where no one will infringe upon its rights and historical borders.” He noted that two-thirds of UN member states now consider the autonomy initiative as the only framework for resolving the conflict, adding that Morocco will update this initiative and present it to the UN as the sole basis for negotiations.
