Hit-and-Run Incident Mobilizes Gendarmes in France

French media reported today, Wednesday, that ten people were injured, some of them critically, in a “deliberate” car crash on Île d’Oléron in western France.

BFM TV stated that a driver was arrested after intentionally running over several people on the island. Ten pedestrians and cyclists on the road were injured, with many in critical condition. The motive behind the suspect’s actions has not yet been determined.

French Interior Minister Laurent Núñez wrote on his X platform account that the driver struck multiple pedestrians and cyclists on the island, adding that five individuals sustained injuries, including two in critical condition, and that the suspect was apprehended by gendarmerie forces; an investigation into the incident was initiated.
