Nazir Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed that Morocco is making a historic advancement in the Moroccan Sahara issue following the United Nations Security Council’s approval of the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty.

Bourita explained in an interview with Channel Two that this achievement is the result of 26 years of continuous personal efforts by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, noting that since 1999, the Kingdom has proposed viable alternatives after it became evident that the referendum suggested in 1996 was impractical.

He further stated that Morocco has been implementing autonomy in practice since 2004, having presented it to the international community in 2007. This position was bolstered by recognition from several African and European countries, culminating in U.S. recognition, thanks to King Mohammed VI’s precise strategic vision.

The minister emphasized that this international support marks the culmination of a long effort and underscores Morocco’s commitment to finding a realistic and peaceful solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, reflecting the Kingdom’s wise policy on the international stage.
