A police officer from the anti-gang unit in the Fes Security Prefecture had to use his service weapon around 2 a.m. on Tuesday to neutralize a threat posed by two individuals caught in the act of committing a serious theft, having subjected the officers to a severe assault using knives.
Initial information indicates that police intervened to arrest the suspects while they were committing a theft inside an industrial workshop. However, they showed violent resistance, and one of them injured an officer in the hand.
Faced with this imminent danger, the police officer fired a shot that struck one of the suspects in the lower limbs, leading to his transfer to the hospital for treatment, while his accomplice was arrested and the weapons used in the assault were confiscated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals involved, aged 20 and 23, had prior convictions for serious theft.
The public prosecutor ordered that the injured suspect be placed under medical supervision at the hospital, while the second suspect was placed in police custody pending the ongoing judicial investigation into the matter.
