The official spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that public authorities continued their systematic interventions on the evening of Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in several areas of the kingdom to manage forms of protest within legal frameworks, ensuring security and public order, and protecting the safety of individuals and property.
The ministry explained that some protests escalated into acts of violence and rioting, involving a significant number of minors, who accounted for approximately 70% of participants. They used knives, threw stones, set fire to tires, and detonated gas canisters.
The spokesperson added that more severe instances of violence were recorded in various areas, including attacks on government buildings and security premises. In Al-Qliya in the Inzegane Ait Melloul region, there was an attempt to seize firearms, ammunition, and operational equipment, prompting elements of the royal gendarmerie to use their service weapons in lawful self-defense, resulting in three fatalities.
He noted that the number of injuries reached 354 individuals with varying degrees of wounds, among whom 326 were members of public security forces. Additionally, 271 vehicles belonging to public authorities and 175 private vehicles sustained material damage. Acts of vandalism and looting targeted around 80 administrative, health, security, and municipal facilities, as well as banks and commercial shops in 23 provinces and regions.
The ministry confirmed that authorities began taking legal action against those suspected, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. Some adults were placed under provisional detention, while minors were kept in custody, all while ensuring full legal guarantees to protect rights and freedoms.
The spokesperson concluded by affirming the Ministry of the Interior’s commitment to continuing its duties to ensure public order and protect rights and freedoms within the legal framework, and to take all legal measures against anyone proven to be involved in acts of violence and rioting, according to legal procedures and under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
