The movement “Saharawis for Peace,” which has broken away from the Polisario Front, has called upon the United Nations during the Fourth Committee meeting to support Morocco’s autonomy initiative, viewing it as the realistic solution to end the longstanding suffering of the Sahrawi people.
Ahmed Barikli, the movement’s first secretary, explained that the Moroccan initiative represents a genuine opportunity to open a new path based on dialogue and coexistence. He stated that his movement is not affiliated with any political group but expresses the will of Sahrawis who are weary of war and exile and desire a stable future in their homeland.
Mohamed Sherif, the movement’s foreign relations officer, indicated that adopting a special status for the Sahrawi region under Moroccan sovereignty would ensure a democratic self-governance model, drawing inspiration from successful international experiences, and called for reconciliation, development, and the establishment of conditions for return.
