Morocco ranks 70th globally in the 2025 Henley Passport Index, released this October, among 199 countries included in the ranking.

According to the report reviewed by Al Omq, the Moroccan passport allows its holders to travel to 73 destinations worldwide without prior visas, either through full exemption or obtaining a visa upon arrival.

The Henley Index is considered one of the most prominent international references for passport power, as it relies on the number of destinations that citizens of each country can enter without prior visas.

Singapore topped the global list with access to 193 destinations without visas, followed by South Korea with 190 and Japan at third place with 189. At the bottom of the list, Afghanistan ranked last (106th) with a passport that permits travel to only 24 countries without a visa.

In North Africa, Morocco is positioned relatively high compared to its neighbors, surpassing Algeria and Mauritania, and coming close to Tunisia, which is ranked 75th with access to 68 destinations without visas. Mauritania is ranked 85th with 57 destinations, and Algeria follows closely in 86th place with 56 destinations, while Libya is at 99th with 39 destinations, and Egypt is 91st with 51 destinations.

This ranking reflects the Kingdom’s ambition to enhance its diplomatic openness and international presence, despite ongoing challenges related to mutual visa policies, security considerations, and migration.

Experts in consular affairs believe that strengthening the Moroccan passport requires expanding the network of bilateral visa exemption agreements, particularly with Asian and Latin American countries, in addition to reinforcing administrative and security trust with the European Union.

The index confirms that the Moroccan passport remains in the middle tier globally, reflecting the Kingdom’s standing in the international diplomatic landscape while highlighting the need for continued efforts to facilitate citizen mobility and broaden their travel opportunities worldwide.
