Europe Records a Decrease in Migrant Crossings in 2025
Data from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, revealed a 22% decrease in the number of irregular migrants crossing into the European Union during the first nine months of 2025, totaling approximately 133,400 cases compared to the same period last year.
Despite this decline, the International Organization for Migration confirmed that risks associated with irregular migration persist, with nearly 1,300 individuals losing their lives attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea during the same timeframe.
Furthermore, the data highlighted a significant reduction in crossings along the West Africa route, with a 58% decrease, a 47% drop in the Western Balkans, and a 36% decline at Eastern land borders.
In contrast, attempts to cross into the United Kingdom via the English Channel rose by 14%, amounting to around 54,300 attempts during the same period.
