Returning to the Big Screen: Lobna Abidar’s Comeback
Moroccan actress Lobna Abidar is making her return to the film industry with a new movie titled “Autisto,” in which she plays the lead role, after several years away from the national artistic scene.
The film is directed by Jérôme Cohen-Olivar, who has previously collaborated with Abidar on earlier projects, and is expected to premiere at a film festival in 2025, according to various Moroccan and French media sources.
According to the French site Allociné, the film revolves around a mother named Malika who raises her only son Adam, who has profound autism, while grappling with the daily struggles of his condition and her fear of a sudden absence from his life.
The same site notes that the film stars Lobna Abidar alongside actors Youssef Boukra Aziza and Sam Kanater, in a work that blends social realism with human drama.
This film is a joint Moroccan-French production and highlights the human side of a single mother in Morocco, facing the challenges of raising a child with a developmental disorder—an often rare topic in national cinema. Strong and realistic scenes are expected to reflect the essence of the story.
It’s worth noting that Lobna Abidar had left Morocco for France several years ago after facing bullying and harsh criticism following her performance in the film “Zin Li Fik,” before gradually returning to participate in new artistic works.
