United States: Trump Announces Unprecedented Republican Conference Ahead of Midterm Elections
On Tuesday, September 16, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Republican Party will hold a “midterm conference” in preparation for the legislative elections scheduled for 2026. This initiative is unusual, as national conferences are typically reserved for presidential election years.
Trump stated on his platform Truth Social: “Republicans will organize a midterm conference to highlight the major achievements since the 2024 presidential elections,” adding that the date and location of the conference will be announced later.
The President had mentioned this idea last month, emphasizing the importance of showcasing his party’s performance before the elections. He noted the significant influx of new members to the Republican Party (GOP) as part of his “Make America Great Again” campaign, asserting that his party is well-positioned to win in the upcoming elections.
Trump also praised the fundraising results organized by the Republican Party and highlighted the measures taken by his administration to roll back some of his predecessor Joe Biden’s decisions.
According to several U.S. media outlets, the Democratic Party is considering a similar initiative ahead of the 2026 elections, noting that Democrats had previously organized limited conferences and meetings in the 1970s and 1980s to showcase their achievements to the public and their supporters.
