On September 22, 2025, the United Nations celebrated its 80th anniversary during a high-level general assembly meeting in New York, attended by most member states, including Morocco.
The celebration featured several notable highlights, including a documentary video showcasing the organization’s achievements since its inception, focusing on its humanitarian interventions, role in human rights, and international political activities. The event also included artistic, poetic, and musical performances honoring significant milestones in the organization’s history.
In his speech, Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the challenges currently facing the United Nations, including geopolitical divisions, ongoing crises, and delays in achieving sustainable development goals. General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock underscored the importance of intensifying efforts to make the organization more effective, accountable, and closer to the people.
This celebration comes at a critical time when the UN is confronted with multiple global challenges such as climate change, peace, inequality, and security, emphasizing the need to reinvent its role and enhance its legitimacy under the theme of the session: “Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
