The National Association of Media and Publishers held the first meeting of its executive office, announcing the launch of a new phase aimed at enhancing its presence and pivotal role in the national media landscape.

The meeting resulted in the formal establishment of the executive office and the appointment of its members, accompanied by a work program focused on developing the sector and improving the professional and financial conditions of journalists, reflecting the association’s ambitious vision to strengthen national journalism.

The structure of the executive office includes Idris Shhitan as President, with honorary presidents Abdul Mounim Dalmi, Ahmed Sharai, Bahia Oumrani, and Abdullah Al-Firdous. The list of deputies features prominent national media professionals. Additionally, Mokhtar Lagzoui was appointed as General Secretary, Ishraq Mabassit as Deputy General Secretary, Mohammed Al-Haitami as Treasurer, and Hicham Khalifi as Deputy Treasurer, alongside Abdul Hamid Ajmahri, Fahd Al-Iraqi, Hassan Kanuni, Ahmed Najim, Mahdi Al-Abboush, Lahcen Awad, and Mohammed Taqi Allah Aba Hazem as advisors contributing to expertise within the association.

Idris Shhitan confirmed during the general assembly that the association is gearing up for major initiatives, prominently engaging in the National Press Council, while focusing on strengthening the publishers’ institution within the council. He added that the association is working towards successfully implementing support programs for media enterprises and is proposing to the government to increase financial support for the sector to 300 million dirhams, along with efforts to provide free train passes for journalists and discounts on air travel, reflecting the association’s commitment to improving the profession’s conditions.

The executive office also emphasized the importance of enhancing partnerships with public and private institutions, addressing illegal platforms that threaten the credibility of media, and highlighting the role of national journalism in showcasing the Kingdom both regionally and internationally, especially with major upcoming sports and cultural events.

Shhitan reiterated that the appointment of the executive office reflects a significant trust and responsibility, asserting their mission to defend the interests of national journalism and empower its media institutions to be more robust, credible, and impactful. He emphasized that the association would remain a proactive entity able to lead major transformations in the sector.
