Ministry of Health Opens File on Medical Laboratory Organization and Announces the Establishment of a National Network
The Epidemiology and Disease Control Directorate at the Ministry of Health is moving towards addressing the status of medical laboratories in Morocco, with the aim of establishing a national network for coordination between public and private laboratories. A document issued by the directorate indicated that the health system heavily relies on the effectiveness of these laboratories; however, their current reality suffers from fragmentation and weak coordination, limiting the speed of response, especially during emergencies.
The directorate believes that creating a national network of laboratories is a fundamental step to enhance integration among various facilities and improve the utilization of human, technical, and financial resources, while adopting efficiency and specialization standards to identify reference laboratories at both national and regional levels.
In this context, the directorate announced the recruitment of a consultant to prepare the regulatory and functional framework for this new system, with their mission extending from October to December for a period of 40 days. This will involve producing a diagnostic report on the current situation, analyzing costs and infrastructure, and developing an organizational vision that defines roles and responsibilities according to governance standards and international recommendations.
