The National Office of Railways has announced the commencement of a major infrastructure project in the Casablanca region, as part of the high-speed train extension from Kenitra to Marrakech. The aim is to develop a modern network that meets current and future needs, especially along the route connecting Mohammedia and Naciri.

The office stated in a press release that the project intends to increase the number of tracks to six, with two dedicated to high-speed trains, two for regional trains, and two for other lines. This will require the expansion of more than 40 engineering structures across Casablanca.

These works will include the implementation of a new signaling system, construction of dedicated stations for high-speed and regional trains, electrification of 600 kilometers of railway, and the establishment of nine maintenance centers. The projects will span from September 2025 until the end of 2027, which may necessitate scheduling some works at night or during the day.

The announcement noted that these works might affect certain train schedules, with temporary closures of several stations for renovations, including the Mohammed V Station. In this regard, the first phase will commence on September 15, with a comprehensive revision of passenger schedules, ensuring that the usual service offering is maintained.

To mitigate the impact of these works on passengers, the office has devised a meticulous plan and a precise schedule to ensure the continuity of services under optimal safety and comfort conditions, utilizing significant human expertise and logistical resources. Starting from September 8, a support mechanism will be launched within the main stations to guide passengers and provide them with all information related to train schedules through the website and official applications.

This project comes in the context of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed train, which was initiated by King Mohammed VI on April 24, 2025, and represents an extension of the Tangier-Kenitra line over a distance of 430 kilometers, enhancing connectivity between the north and south of the Kingdom. It is expected to reduce travel time between Tangier and Marrakech to two hours and forty minutes, providing a modern, fast, and sustainable means of transportation, linking strategic stations such as airports and major stadiums.
